What I’m “Loving Lately!”

First off, Rourke and I had the opportunity of meeting Tyler’s (Erin’s girlfriend) parents this past weekend in Dallas.  Wow! What a couple!  We just fell in love with both of these amazing people and realized we had a lot in common (minus Saints and LSU football, of course).

Next, we have been watching some Oscar contenders and reading a little fiction and non-fiction.  I had to share what we loved!  And, don’t miss the free library apps I am loving, too! Maybe you can enjoy some or all of these…..

The Telomere Effect by Elizabeth Blackburn and Elissa Epel

This book I could not put down.  As I age, I want to stay healthy and away from diseases, drawing me quickly to this title.

In this amazing read, the very-knowledgeable authors explain how our chromosomes are like shoelaces.  Our telomeres are like those plastic tips on the shoelaces.  With lifestyle changes, we can extend the life of these telomeres and keep our chromosomes from unraveling, thus extending our lives and well-being (with the added benefits of making us look younger than our chronological age!!!). BINGO!

The Night Tiger by Yangsze Choo

This book is a little bit of everything.  It is fictional based in 1930’s colonial Malaysia.  It had lot of mystery and suspense along with drama and romance.  It was a long one-great for a long flight or car ride.

Movies

Home Again with Reese Witherspoon.  If you missed this one at the theaters, you can catch it on Netflix now.  It is just cute!  Alice (Reese) recently moves back to L.A. with her two daughters after separating from her husband in New York.  Celebrating her 40th birthday out with friends, she meets three young men, hoping to make it in the film industry.  After a long night of partying, she wakes up to them all in her home.  Needing a place to live, the young men soon find themselves living in Alice’s guesthouse.

Marriage Story with Scarlett Johansson was pretty heavy but good still.  It’s the sad story of divorce and all the effects it has on everyone involved.  Laura Dern won an Oscar for her supporting role in the film.  You can view on Netflix.

1917 is Oscar-worthy film set in WWI Europe. The main character(s) must deliver a message to the front lines to prevent a trap from the enemy.  The task is easier said than done, of course.  Great film! (Still in theaters.)

Two Popes starring Anthony Hopkins is based on a true story.  This award-winning film highlights the struggles of the current Pope Francis arrival to the papalcy.  It’s a beautiful film! And, it has won many accolades.  You can check it out of Netflix.

The Laundromat ,starring Meryl Streep among others, is a satirical take on the destruction shell companies do to many.  It was eye-opening!  You can watch on Netflix.
