Painted Pillow DIY

fullsizeoutput_3c38.jpegAre you as obsessed as I am about this new Royal baby due soon?  I think Meghan (Markle) Windsor is such a breath of fresh air for the Royal family.  She and Prince Harry are an adorable couple.  And, I think they are going to make great parents, too.

When wanting to add a few more touches to the not-so-new-anymore guest room, I thought, “Don’t guests want to feel like royalty while visiting?”
Well, I can’t deliver Buckingham Palace by any means, but, those extra touches can make someone feel special as your guest.

I wanted another set of pillows that would pull out the citron color in the velvet chair and pillow.  After looking everywhere with no luck,  I decided to make my own, with a royal flair, of course.

Hobby Lobby has all their pillows, pillow covers and pillow inserts on sale now, so I went for it.  I printed out a queen silhouette from Google Images.  I also bought some acrylic paint to mix and match the citron color.IMG_2928.JPGIMG_2935.JPGIMG_2929.JPGIMG_2931.JPGI first cut out the silhouette and taped it to the pillow covers.IMG_2938.JPGFor two pillows, I definitely would recommend measuring where to place the pattern to make sure they match. Also, I would recommend placing a piece of cardboard or thick piece of paper inside the cover.  This prevents the paint from bleeding through.

IMG_2940.JPGI then mixed the two acrylic paints to match the citron velvet pillow.IMG_2943.JPGIMG_2944.JPGI then sponged the paint around the edge of the pattern.IMG_2946.JPGIMG_2947.JPGAnd finally, I sponged paint to fill in the whole silhouette.IMG_2948.JPGI did this for both pillow covers and allowed to dry.IMG_2950.JPGIMG_2951.JPGI removed the patterns when dry and place pillow inserts inside.fullsizeoutput_3c36.jpegYou could definitely do any number of patterns on your pillows….your kids silhouettes, a dog breed (Rodrigue’s Blue Dog would be cool), an animal print like cheetah or zebra, or you name it.fullsizeoutput_3c3cI think it adds just a little extra vavoom to the room!fullsizeoutput_3c3d.jpegfullsizeoutput_3c3afullsizeoutput_3c3b.jpeg

Here is what I used:  pillow cover//pillow insert//acrylic paint brand//duct tape// sponge paintbrush

The project was really inexpensive but looks like I spent a lot more.

How do you make guests feel special?  Would love for you to share!
